Sound good, bad cable management. January 4, 2009 Tech Addict (Philadelphia, PA) Sound is good, though I have a set of Altec Lansing ALS44's from about 2001 that sound as good if not better. The "dock control center" is really just a power button and dial volume control on a "dock shaped" thing-a-ma-jig. The left and right speakers are hard wired to each other via the plug, the dock is hard wired to the subwoofer, etc. It was impossible to run the cables where I wanted to because of this. These are my first "slightly more than basic speakers" from Logitech, and likely my last. Though the sound quality is decent, the cable management options really frosted me.
Not the quality I expected. December 26, 2008 Michael J. Collins Jr. (Arlington, VA) I've bought numerous low-priced systems from Logitech over the years. I have always been impressed with the incredible sound quality you get for a buck. Looking for a low budget system for a machine I rarely use, I went with the X-240. I have the X-230 at work, which I have been overly impressed with. Clear highs, powerful lows. I would have thought the X-240 would only get better? Not so. The X-240 is just an everyday low-quality speaker system; you can get the same clarity with a $5 bargain bin setup. For $20 (retail is $50? I'd have been really upset if I had paid that), I suppose I don't have much room to complain, as they are decent for the price, but I really was expecting something I could be pleased with. The dull and muddy mids and highs actually pain me a bit to listen to. I don't see anything in Logitech's current lineup to fit what I'm looking for. Hopefully they'll remedy the lack of a high-quality, low-footprint, low-dollar entry with the X-250. I will be one of the first in line to replace this system with it.
they are just OK speakers December 23, 2008 V. Chu if you are looking for an OK speaker, you may wanna consider this logitech. im not a picky person and dont know nothing about sound and stuff but the sound is sketchy when i turn up the volume just a bit and hear the static noise when no music is playing.
Waste of money December 18, 2008 Konstantin Papushin (Buffalo Grove, IL United States) They sounded bad right out of the box. I figured it'll be Ok for the money I payed for it. But in 3 days they started producing terrible static I couldn't stop. It's hard to expect anything good from 20-dollar speakers. So here are bad parts: Charger dock is useless. Subwoofer produces very muffed and unclean bass. Speakers sound very cheap too. Whoever came up with terrible design idea of permanently attaching charging station to a subwoofer with a wire needs to have his head examined. I needed to move 200-pound table to get it set up. Big, big disappointment. I expected much better product from Logitech.
Good Enough for $$$ December 17, 2008 B. Ryu (Urbana, IL USA) I bought these speakers to use in my dorm room. They are good enough and serve the purpose. They get loud enough and provide enough bass. When the knob is turned to the maximum, the bass gets all wobbly and cover the middle and the treble sounds, but if configured just right, it can mimic the club noise. One thing I have to say about these is that the bass knob on the woofer is at the rear side, which means I have to get my head down below my desk and reach beyond the woofer every time I wanna change the bass. Since I listen to a variety of genres like classic, pop, rap and jazz, I like to change it often so it can be a hassle from time to time. But again, what more could you ask for at $30?
